Craniofacial, Plastic, and Reconstructive Surgeon

Professor Murray is a Craniofacial Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeon at Children's Hospital Ireland and Mater Misericordea University Hospital. He qualified as a dentist in 1989 and continued post graduate training at the Dublin Dental Hospital during which he was awarded a fellowship in general dentistry (FDS) in 1992.

He returned to Trinity College to complete his medical degree and following two years of basic surgical training he was awarded the FRCSI. He worked at the National Oral and Maxillofacial Unit in St James’s Hospital Dublin and completed the Fellowship in Oral Surgery (FFD). He undertook his Plastic Surgery training Ireland between 2000 and 2005.

In 2005 he began the first of three subspecialist training programs in Toronto, Canada and in that year completed the FRCS(Plast) and; EBOPRAS Fellowship.

In Toronto he undertook fellowships in Reconstructive Microsurgery, Adult Craniomaxillofacial Surgery finally a year as Craniofacial Fellow at the world renowned Sick Kids Hospital, where he gained extensive expertise in all aspects of paediatric acquired and congenital deformities. In 2007, Professor. Murray completed a 3 month Fellowship in cosmetic surgery at the McIndoe Surgical Centre.

Professor Murray is the lead Clinician of the National Paediatric Craniofacial Center (NPCC) where he manages all types of pediatric craniofacial conditions. The NPCC is considered a centre of excellence and is fully affiliated with the European Reference Networks (ERNCranio). Professor Murray has an appointment at the Mater Misericordea University Hospital and St James Hospital where children are transitioned from the pediatric craniofacial services into the adult hospitals for ongoing management of their facial difference. He is an Honorary Clinical Professor at the Royal College of surgeons and is a past Secretary General of the European Board of Plastic Surgeons and Plastic surgery Section of UEMS.

He has a keen interest in research and teaching. He established the Craniofacial Research group at the NPCC and is a Principle investigator with the Tissue Engineering Research Group (TERG) at the RCSI as well as the Trinity Bioengineering Science institute and Clinical advisor with BIOMET.

His main areas of interest are pediatric and adult cranio-maxillofacial surgery as well as orthognathic (corrective Jaw) surgery and Skin Cancer management.
