Consultant Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeon
A graduate of UCC in 1981, Patricia specialised in Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery doing her training in Ireland, UK, USA and Australia. Her training included Fellowships in microsurgery and hand surgery and she trained under Bernie O Brien, Wayne Morrison, Neil Ford Jones and Phil Sykes. Her areas of special interest are hand surgery and in particular congenital hand surgery, breast surgery and cosmetic surgery. More recently she has reduced her practice and deals with mainly skin lesions.
Practicing as a consultant since 1994, she has extensive experience in these areas and has held appointments at the St James’s hospital, Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital and St Luke’s hospital for 26 years. She currently works privately in Eccles Clinic, Dublin, the Sports Surgery clinic and Blackrock Clinic, Dublin treating a large number of benign and malignant skin lesions and assisting with microsurgical breast reconstruction.
Patricia also teaches anatomy to undergraduate medical students and is involved in training of basic surgical trainees and plastic surgery trainees in surgical skills and Human Factors. She is an active member of the Irish Association of Plastic Surgery and has served as its President from 2012-2014. She is the current Treasurer of the Association. She has been closely associated with teaching and training of both undergraduates and postgraduate doctors as well as paramedical staff. She is also an active member of the Irish Hand Surgery Society and was appointed as its President in 2017-2020. She served as an examiner on the Intercollegiate Board in Plastic Surgery for 15 years and continues as an examiner for the European Board of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. She was external examiner in Plastic Surgery for 3 years for COSECSA (College of Surgery for Eastern, Central and Southern Africa). She served as Treasurer of the European Society of Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery. In terms of overseas work, she has spent time teaching and operating in Vietnam, Ghana, Jordan and Albania.
